LA PORTE — When she was working in St. Joseph County for a home-based family preservation agency, Vicki Burge, a resident of La Porte, found herself picking up her phone and dialing 2-1-1 more than a few times.

“Once, I had a family who lost everything — their car, their home. The dad lost his job, and things spiralled out of control,” said Burge, now the social services director for the La Porte Salvation Army. “We used 2-1-1 very often with that family.”    http://www.heraldargus.com/articles/2009/12/10/news/local/doc4b2047ecb5114107659670.txt
