United Way of LaPorte County and 2-1-1 continue to distribute discount prescription cards for those who do not have prescription insurance. These cards save 20 percent to 50 percent off the cost of prescriptions. The cards are free, and anyone in need can dial 2-1-1 to receive the card or print the card below by clicking the print icon on this page.

211 info line expands to LaPorte County

LaPorte County residents now can call the toll-free information line 211 to find social services where they can either receive or offer help.

Calls can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It may be dialed on cell phones or land lines.

And starting Friday, the public will be able to access the Web site www.myuw211.org to search for the same resources or to do a live chat with the 211 staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Central time) Mondays through Fridays.

LA PORTE — When she was working in St. Joseph County for a home-based family preservation agency, Vicki Burge, a resident of La Porte, found herself picking up her phone and dialing 2-1-1 more than a few times.

“Once, I had a family who lost everything — their car, their home. LaPorte County to Launch 2-1-1 Information Service

LaPorte County plans to launch a 2-1-1 telephone service on Jan. 15. The 2-1-1 service is a three-digit dialing number that connects individuals in need with community-based, faith-based and government health and human service programs.
